IFW Instructor
For a period of about nine years she was a member of the adjunct faculty at Binghamton University where she taught popular courses in freelance magazine writing and creative nonfiction. She has also been an instructor with the Institute for Writers (formerly Long Ridge Writers Group) for more than two decades.
Karen takes special pride in helping students achieve clarity and liveliness in their writing, something she always strives for in her own work. As one reviewer said of her book, Backroads & Byways of New England: Drives, Day Trips & Weekend Excursions (Countryman Press), “It’s very informative, and feels like an enlightening conversation rather than a tome of travel facts.”
Also a published poet, Karen’s work has appeared in literary magazines including The Montserrat Review and Perceptions and she has contributed
essays, feature articles, and poetry to anthologies including Fits, Starts & Matters of the Heart; Sixty Candles: Reflections on the Writing Life; Voices in Today’s Magazines; and If We’d Wanted Quiet We Would Have Raised Goldfish.
